We use maple syrup in smoothies for the kids every day. One favorite is this avocado maple-nut smoothie; it's packed with protein from nuts and good fats from avocado. 1/2 an avocado 2 T almond meal or homemade nut meal with walnuts and sunflower seeds 3 T maple syrup 3/4 c milk 1 T flax meal  If you want more avocado, throw more in, sweeten up with more maple or thicken with a bit of plain yogurt. As long as there is maple, it's hard to go wrong!

There are a lot of drinks that feature maple syrup these days. "The Vermonter" is a common drink on bar menus, usually featuring some variation on a martini with maple syrup added.  A newer twist is to use maple syrup in the production of the alcohol itself. Tree Spirits of Oakland Maine has had a lot of luck making fun and excellent maple products. Yes, they use Maine maple syrup rather than Vermont maple syrup, but it's all Northern New England, right? Recently we checked out their tasting room and after a sip (or two), we left with a lovely...
